And So It Begins

I believe I should start my chroniciling by explaining the title of my blog. The official mascot of Rice University, my home university, is the owl. And as I am a student of Rice University, ipso facto, I am the titular Owl of this blog. As for the Kiwis, the definition is three fold. Firstly, the kiwi is a small, flightless bird with a rather comical (in the best sense of the word possible) appearance found, to the extent of my knowledge, only in New Zealand. This hairy-looking bird is in fact the national symbol of New Zealand, leading to the second use of the work "kiwi", a term used to refer to a New Zealander. Finally, the third definition is realized in the small, brown fruit named the kiwifruit, regularly shortened to just the kiwi.

In one week's time, I shall find myself surrounded by all three, an owl among kiwis (the first and last time I refer to the blog title in a post, I swear). Reality, as much as I try to separate myself from it, is finally sinking in. In five months, this blog will (hopefully) be filled with pictures and pages documenting my shenanigans, adventures, jaunts, etc. All of this is now just one week away. And I could not be more excited.

And so it begins.
